Can US residents purchase direct from scs-ptc.com instead of gong through the US distributor? Any pros or cons for doing this?

as nobody replied, here are my 2cents, but I have no relationship with SCS at all (I only bought two PTCs so far directly from them), so I cannot give you a final answer to your first question, but I do not see any reasons why SCS wouldn't ship directly to the US.

Differences (decide yourself if this is a pro or con for you):

- as you are outside the European Union, you would pay the price in Euro as marked in their online store without the 19% German VAT directly to SCS (probably with your credit card) plus shipping costs, this would be converted by your bank to US$ plus the bank fees (if any),
- you would need to pay any US customs charges/taxes (if any, I cannot answer this).

Pros could be:

- cheaper (you have to check what a US distributor would charge plus any local taxes if applicable),
- can be quicker,
- you could have a larger variety of models and/or options (PACTOR-III licenses, Bluetooth included, ...)

Cons could be:

- you are waiting for an international shipment,
- hazzle/paperwork with customs,
- longer ways in case of trouble (warrenty).

The only final remark I have is that SCS was always very fast in processing my order (the PTC-IIusb was not on stock, but they sent me an e-mail within minutes and asked if 3 weeks would be okay for me, it was and the modem arrived in 2 1/2 weeks time).
