Issues getting the PTC-IIe P3 to work with the FT-857D
First off I should say what I am using.
Modem: SCS PTC-IIe with P3 license.
Radio: Yeasu FT857d for use on amateur radio frequencies
Power source: 12v Battery
Antenna: Buddipole
Tuner: LDG Z100
The modem came from White Squall Consulting Inc. and was tested and in working condition.
I hook it up to my Yeasu FT-857D and try to get it to work.
It won’t connect!
The first thing I suspected was that the signal not getting out, a quick check with a friend that lives near the RMS confirmed that it was getting out.
Next off I thought that it must be a lack of RF chocks, I added like about 20 to any thing that I thought could be causing the problem.
Still won’t connect.
Next off I try using the modem on packet (That digital mode that amateur radio uses on VHF) It worked just fine!
I tried USB and then LSB with the correct offset, no use.
Tried the loop back test passed just fine.
Recorded it transmitting and then played it back to it's self and it thought that it was connecting to it's self...
I kind of think that it has to do with my radio… But I am not sure what.
Thanks for any input.

How are the figures of TXD and CSD commands? They may be around 5 (25ms) or 6 (30ms) for modern transceiver like FT-857D. I use Yaesu FT-2000 and going well with 6 (30ms) for TXD and CSD.
Kind regards,

Daniel,I have responded on another blog to a similar problem by another Daniel. Two years ago I tried everything to hook up the 857 to the SCS modem. After much effort one of the cables was faulty and when FArallon replaced it worked right away.
However I was distracted by work and school for the past two years and when I went to work on the 857 I again have connection problems. I had forgotten all the jiggling I had done prevouisly and what worked and what didnt. Then again it could be the cable. I am getting thru from the computer to the modem, which for a while was not happening. So my problem is getting the signal from the modem to make the transmitter TX. The Yaesu manual isnt much help nor do I find much on the pertinent blogs other than folks who say mine works fine. The trick is getting one of them to share their settings.

Daniel,
I have had similar problems. I once had everything working fine, but then repackaged my 857 & modem for mobile opetation. After that nothing worked. I finally found a set of cables which allowed me to control the radio but currently I cant get PTT to work on Pactor with Airmail, Paclink or the SCS SW program. I thing I may have a hardware problem in the modem Audio circuit but I am haviing a problem diagnosing it.

Re: Issues getting the PTC-IIe P3 to work with the FT-857D
did you put the Transceiver into DIG U mode? Did you use fast AGC? Did you choose the correct frequency to connect the mailbox? Was your Mycall set correct by the program you are using?
You did not tell what program you are using. I suppose Airmail?

Re: Issues getting the PTC-IIe P3 to work with the FT-857D
Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for all your helpful responses!
I just now came back across this blog(I never got any email alerts) Oh, well better late then never!
A few things that I did try,
->DIG U Mode
->Fast AGC
->Confirmed that Mycall was set via serial terminal
->Freq set via airmail, later set by me.
->My DIY tx/rx cable works on 1200 packet, just not on pactor... not sure if the pinout is different for HF??
Thanks Again,
Daniel
P.S. I am going to try the other recommended things
